Hi, I’m Samanta. I got sick two years ago. It was a big change for me – I was working, I had multiple volunteer positions and I was pursuing not one, but two undergraduate degrees. Now, I’m kind of just sitting at home. Illness has turned my life upside down. But that’s okay.
I’ve realised that despite the fact that we seem to live in a healthy world, that’s not true. Animals get sick, plants get sick – so why not humans? Illness is a natural part of life, like death and loss. Of course we all want to be healthy, who wants to suffer and be in pain, but we can still find happiness in sickness.
This is what I aim to discuss in my blog. We should adjust our thinking, we should aim for health but accept our conditions. We are still very much alive and have the capability to be happy. I’m not saying that there won’t be bad days where you sit there and wonder what happened to your life, but rather that you can find some sort of inner peace within your situation.
In the words of Viktor Frankl, “When we are no longer to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
